@Lach:

Hi Lach. That's an impressive view on that topic, I like it a lot. I know from experience we aren't able to let go of fear but we are able to act with fear. That's what I understand under your interpretation of self mastery.

When fear comes in, we normally stop and rethink. But with self mastery you've learned and accepted fear to be a part of your life (for example as indicator of you leaving your comfort zone and expanding your life). Through the accepting of your fear you are able to stop reacting and act again from within.

"Fear is the master that will govern you unless you resolve to master it. Not your boss, or your lover or society; but your own fear of their disapproval."
- Yes. We need to stop blaming the people and start taking responsibility for ourselves and our feelings towards them.

Thanks for sharing Lach!

Hi Michael. The term 'self mastery' could be interpreted in a number of ways. My view is that we are free to the degree we are able to let go of our fears. Fear is the master that will govern you unless you resolve to master it. Not your boss, or your lover or society; but your own fear of their disapproval. Self mastery is the ability to make the voice within louder and more insistent than the protestations without. Nothing necessarily to do with self-discipline or motivation. But the ability to let go of the resistance.

I loved the line - "I’ve experienced that I should not behave how I think I should do, but how I feel like being most myself. But if I want to behave in another way than I feel inspired to, I should expand myself and merge those new characteristics in myself.".

I am an avid reader of steve's blog myself so I understand what you are saying...

I like those lines because something inside me connects with them - I have experienced the numbing fear of embracing those new experiences v/s being afraid and sticking to what "I should do", often.

I am glad about representing that part of you that is supporting your trial and wishing you the best.
